Nestled snuggly in the vegetation and and an open farming field of Deschapelles, sits the spacious welcoming library. An oasis off the main road. A single foot path curves past trees and modest concrete dwellings. Clotheslines dangle just out of reach offering splotches of color amidst all the greenery. A tethered goat lifts his head as we pass and down the single track path, a single cow quietly grazes and watches us too as we carefully curate our steps over streams, muddy patches, and mangled pushed up roots. We are careful not to twist an ankle or get a foot stuck in random patches of wet muddy earth. The sky is brilliant blue cradling the sun in all it's radiant splendor. The blazing heat rests upon our heads like a glorious hand offering a blistering blessing. Thick with moisture, the air hardly moves save for the slight wisp made as we walk. Our clothing sticks to us. Are those rice paddys? Yes indeed. We walk further in when a tall building makes its appearance giving way to the gates that open into the library's courtyard. A second building that houses the generator is brightly painted sits to the right of the gates. A concrete pathway stretches out leading up to the doors of the library. Inside, the coolness and breezes are welcoming. Fans hum. It's peaceful. A delightful space with shelves of books and titles beckoning to be picked up and read. Plerette, one of the librarians, is at the ready with a beaming smile and contagious laugh. The photos don't do this structure justice. But look at them anyway.
